Back up your computer regularly

Back up your computer regularly

Viruses, theft or device damage – many users only think about a backup when it is long too late. A regular data backup is indispensable. But what do you have to keep in mind?

Many only realize the value of regular backups when the data on the PC has long since been lost. But backing up data is not witchcraft and with the right software it can be done much faster than many people think.

Ideally, the data from the operating system is stored in a partition. This way, both the system and the data can be backed up and restored separately. Not only the data backup is important, but also a system backup. This also saves the user from reinstalling all stored programs after a hard drive failure.

Cloud backup – how to back up your data properly

Many users back up their data on an external hard drive or other data medium, but do not think about what happens if this medium is also lost. This can happen faster than you think. The cloud offers itself as another backup method. This service doesn’t cost much and is secure and easy to use.

Local backup is not enough

Losing important data on the PC and on the backup media at the same time does not happen often, but it is not unrealistic. This scenario can happen quickly in the event of a burglary, a house fire, or even a flood. Backing up to a USB stick or SD cards is also not perfect, as it is not clear whether these media will still be functional when the data is used for recovery.

Backing up to the cloud ensures that all data is stored even in the event of a total loss of hardware. Another major advantage of the cloud is primarily that the backed up data can be accessed on the go.

Finding the right cloud storage

If you want to store your data in the cloud, you need to find the right cloud storage. This should provide sufficient storage capacity and also offer the option to purchase additional storage. If you want to access the cloud storage on the go, you should make sure that the provider offers a corresponding app.

Setting up the synchronization client correctly

Regardless of which client you finally choose, you first have to register and install the client on your computer. With the installation, no data is synchronized with the storage. What data goes into the cloud depends on what data you copy into the directory. In general, the directory should only be used for backup or only for data that should really be transferred to the cloud. You should never use this directory for conventional data storage.
